ABOV (Abovyan Gevorg) was born on November 27, in 1897 in Tiflis. An Armenian writer, translator, literary critic. Professor (1937). Honored Worker of Art of the Republic of Armenia (1945). A member of literary group “Yereq Khmbak” (Y. Charents, A. Vshtuni), author of first literary manifesto "Declaration of three" (1922) in Soviet Armenia.  In 1925-31, Abov was an Armenia proletarian, secretary of the Writers' Association, 1928-31, at the same time, the director of the First State Theatre, in 1940-52- the director of the Matenadaran.

In his early works ("The Woman," 1919, the collections poems) Abov was the follower of the literary formalism. He is the author of short stories, monographs, did many translations (“Short Stories”, 1928, “The great singer of love and justice, Sayat Nova", 1945). Participated in the preparation of text of the Armenian folk epic. 

Abov died on March 11, in 1965 in Yerevan.
