ABRAHAMYAN Sergey was born on February 14, in 1925 in the village of Tum (now in NKR Hadrut region). An Armenian linguist, doctor in philological sciences (1966), professor (1970). NAS RA Academician (1996). Abrahamyan graduated from YSU in 1950, was head of the chair of the modern Armenian at NAS RA Institute of Language. His works  "Indeclinable parts of speech and grammatical and lexical features of the  Modern Armenian language" (1965), "Modern Armenian Grammar" (1969), "Modern Armenian Language" (co volumes 2-3, 1974-76), "Modern literary Armenian" (1981), "Punctuation of the Armenian language " (1999) are of practical significance. 

In 2001 the secondary school in Abrahamyan’s birthplace was named after him.

S. Abrahamyan died on April 3, 2005 in Yerevan.
