ATABEKYAN Levon was born on September 15, in 1857 in the village of Kusapat (now in the Martakert region of NKR). An Armenian public-political figure, doctor and poet. Studied social sciences at the Universities of Tubingen and Leipzig, studied medicine in Berlin and Zurich. In 1903 he was engaged in public-political activities, was the member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation.

In 1909 Artabekyan was imprisoned and released in 1912. After the February Revolution (1917) he became the member of Transcaucasian commissariat,  then the Transcaucasian Sejm, vice-president of the Armenian National Council of Baku branch. He was of opinion that the only way of the liberation of the Armenian people is the unification with Russia and International revolutionary forces. He depicted the life of the Karabakh people in his works written in Karabakh dialect. Atabekyan was killed in Baku on March 20, 1918 during the ethnic clashes.
