YERUKHAN (Srmakeshkhanlyan Yervand) was born in 1870, IN Constantinople. An writer, publicist, translator and teacher. He studied at Nersesyan and Kedronakan gymnasiums of Constantinople. In the days of the Armenian pogroms in 1896 he was exiled to Bulgaria, in 1904 to Egypt. In exile he was engaged in literary and editorial work and pedagogy. Yerukhan developed realistic traditions of the Western Armenian literature of 1880s with the publication of short stories ("Papuk," "Washerwoman" etc.) in the newspapers "Masis" and "Arevelk” in 1891-96. In 1900, his stories "Cabman", "The Power of the Blood" and the unfinished novel "Refugees" were published in the journal "Shavig". In 1908, Yerukhan returned to Constantinople, became the editor of the newspaper "Arevelk". The novel "Daughter of Amir" (1910) was published in the journal “Arevelk”, which reflected the reality of Armenians of Constantinople. He translated the works of A. Daudet, H. Malot, J. Lermina, J. Marie. 

Yerukhan died in 1915. he was the victim of the Armenian Genocide.
