JRBASHYAN Eduard was born on September 24, 1923 in Yerevan. A literary critic. Doctor of Philology (1965), Professor (1967), Academician (1982, NAS RA associate member from 1974). Honored Worker of Science of the USSR (1970). Brother of M. Jrbashyan. He graduated from YSU in 1950. From 1950 Jrbashyan was the lecturer at Yerevan State University, vice-editor of “Grakan Tert” in 1953-54, chief-editor of  the journal "Sovetakan grakanutyun (Soviet Literature)" in 1961-62 and the "Bulletin of Yerevan State University" in  1967-77. The head of department of the theory of Literature of the Institute of literature of USSR Academy of Sciences in 1966-70. The head of the chair of Theory of Literature and Aesthetics of YSU in 1972-78. 

Jrbashyan works are mainly on the general problems of the literary theory, versification, the formation and development of the Armenian new poetic history and theory. He comprehensively studied H. Tumanyan's life and activities, interpreted his works in a new way (“Poems of Tumanyan”, 1964, “Ballads of Tumanyan”, 1969, “Poetry of Tumanyan” in Russian, 1969). Jrbashyan touched upon the Eastern and Western aesthetic and ideological manifestations of literary movements. His works are on life and activities of M. Nalbandyan, K. Alishan,  G. Sundukyan, A. Isahakyan, M. Metsarents, V. Teryan, R. Sevak, Y. Charents, A. Bakunts. He also touched upon the relations of the Armenian literature to the Russian and Western European literature. 

Jrbashyan died on August  10, 1999 in Yerevan.
