MALKHASYAN Hovhannes was born on September 1, 1866 in the village of Sulda (Akharkalaki region of Georgia). An Armenian public figure and pedagogue. He taught in the Armenian populated cities of Caucasus in 1887-97. In 1903 the Tsarist government exiled Malkhasyan to Nor Nakhichevan, then to Russia. In 1905 he returned and was engaged in public activities in Tiflis. Malkhasyan founded a school and benevolent organization in Sulda. 

In 1907-09 he published the political and literary newspaper “Mer Dzayne” in Nor Nakhichevan. The following works of Malkhasyan were published: novel “Vow” (1895), collection “Youth memoirs" (1896), play “On the sand" (1914), collection of ethnographic materials “Album of the Armenian peasant girl” (part 1, 2, 1898, 1901), the collection of short-stories” “Horot Morot” (book 1-4, 1898-1927), etc. He complied and published the textbook of the Armenian language “Writing and Life” (1911) together with Nar-Dos.  

H. Malkhasyan died on June 10, 1931 in Yerevan.
