SHAHINYAN Marieta was born in on March 21, in 1888 in Moscow. Writer, publicist and public figure. Doctor of Philology (1946), associate member of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR (1950). Hero of Socialist Labor (1976). Wife of H. Khachatryants. She graduated from the historic-philosophical faculty of the Higher Women's Courses V.I. Guerrier (1913). She wrote in Russia. Shahinyan became popular for the collection of verses «Orientalia» (1913). In 1922 she was sent to Armenia, wrote the book “Soviet Armenia” (1923). In 1924-1925 under the name Jim Dolar she published a series of anti-fascist adventure stories "Mess-Mend" (film 1926 Armenian publication1971). At the end of 1927 again she visited Armenia.

Shahinyan published the novel "Hydrocentral " (1930-1931, Armenian publication 1932), a collection of essays and articles "In the defense of Ural" (1944). The collection of essays "On the roads of Five" (1948), "Journey in Soviet Armenia" (1950, -1951, USSR State prize, Armenian publication 1952) devoted to the most important events of the time. Shahinyan is the author of a monograph on J. W. Goethe, M.Nalbandyan, A.Shirvanzade etc, as well as on the Karelian-Finnish epic poem "Kalevala". She is also the author of literary works, such as "Literary Diary" (1923), "On Literature and Art" (1958 ), "On the Armenian literature and art" (1961). Shahinyan wrote about Lenin ("The Ulyanov Family", 1938, rev. Ed. 1957 Armenian publication - 1961, "First All-Russian"(1965, Armenian Edition 1979), "Four lessons from Lenin" (1970, in Armenian publication 1976). Memoirs "Man and Time" (1980) is devoted to the problem of the formation of the individual. Shahinyan translated into Russian the works of Tomanyan, H. Hovhannisyan, A.Tsaturyan, S.Shahaziz.

Marieta Shahinyan died on March 20, 1982 in Moscow.
